Rwanda has once again stepped onto the global football stage after Visit Rwanda, a campaign that promotes Rwanda’s tourism offerings in foreign markets announced that it had officially become a Platinum Partner of Germany's top football club, FC Bayern Munich, solidifying its position as the club's Official Tourism Partner for East, Central, and Southern Africa until 2028.
Shortage of public buses in Rwanda has been a persistent problem that has resulted in a range of issues for travelers. From being late for work or home due to long queues at bus parks to the emergence of unguided alternatives, the impact of these shortages has been widely felt as evidenced by incessant complaints voiced on different social media platforms.

Over 2,000 youth from different countries are set to convene at the Intare Conference Arena for a celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the YouthConnekt, on Wednesday, August 23.
Launched in 2012, YouthConnekt is a platform that connects youth with their peers, leaders, role models, skills, and resources to promote employability, access to finance, civic engagement, and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Taxi task team to start three-day workshop today following violent protest
A three-day minibus taxi task team workshop is due to start in Cape Town this morning with the aim of addressing months of disagreements between the industry and local government. Earlier this month, the taxi umbrella body, Santaco, went on an unannounced, eight-day-long taxi stayaway that was marred by chaos and violence, including the deaths of five people.
Cape Town residents are expected to take to the streets on Saturday to protest against the City of Cape Town's 17.6% electricity tariff increase, which came into effect on 1 July.
Following the implementation of the electricity tariff hike, numerous complaints were lodged by residents. Lobby groups STOP COCT and Electricity Tariffs Must Fall, who are organizing the protest, said in a statement that they had had no choice but to protest.
More than 12800 Western Cape women fell victim to domestic violence this year- police
With Women's Month slowly wrapping up, Western Cape police say violence against women continues to plague the province, with 12 832 domestic violence cases reported between January and June.Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile, this week unpacked the latest quarterly crime stats for the past three months. Patekile said between January and March, there were 6 642 cases of domestic violence against women, and from April to June, there were 6,190 cases reported to Western Cape police.
Teachers to get salary raise effective July after new CBA deal
The new salary structure shall be implemented immediately in the August payroll and arrears backdated to July 1, 2023. We assure our teachers that they will get their pay by the end of the month,” she said. Besides the salary increment, the deal also covers other terms of service such as promotions, career progression, and workload for special needs education (SNE) teachers. Macharia said that the TSC has concluded the promotion of 14,738 teachers in August 2023 and has advertised additional 36,275 vacancies for promotions.

Power went off in many parts of the country at 9:45 pm (18:45 GMT) on Friday, the electricity distribution company Kenya Power said in a statement, attributing the loss to “a system disturbance”.,

UN suspends services in Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon after fatal clashes
A United Nations agency has suspended services at the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon to protest against the presence of armed fighters around its schools and other facilities within the area. "The Agency does not tolerate actions that breach the inviolability and neutrality of its installations," United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said in a statement.
It said that schools in the camp were unlikely to be available for 3,200 children at the start of the new school year.
Cyprus rescues 115Syrian migrants aboard 3 separate boats over the last three days
Cyprus police on Monday rescued 18 Syrian migrants after their boat started taking on water some 3.5 miles off the Mediterranean island nation’s southeastern coast.
Police said the 11 men, three unescorted minors, one woman, and her three children had set sail from Tartus, Syria, and were brought ashore aboard a police patrol vessel.

Malawi Government Plans auctioning containers Confiscated from refugees
The Ministry of Homeland Security has planned to put on auction the containers that were confiscated during the relocation exercise of refugees to Dzaleka Camp should the owners fail to avail and bring relevant documents permitting them to do business in the country
The decision has come as on 28th, August, 2023, the Ministry of Homeland Security in conjunction with the Malawi Police service will open and search the 125 containers that were confiscated during the relocation exercise of refugees to Dzaleka Camp in Dowa district.
Malawi to launch funding initiative for researchers
The program which is set to be launched at BICC in Lilongwe this coming Wednesday, 30 August 2023, also seeks to promote collaboration among researchers and innovators.
Speaking to reporters today, NCST Acting Director General, Gift Kadzamira, said the grand challenges initiative will help the country to come up with innovations and research that will help to solve issues of humanitarian crisis.
Chakwera Calls on Malawians to resist corruption
Chakwera said a corrupt free environment accelerates implementation of various developmental projects in the country hence the need for zero corruption in all sectors.
He said those working in public service should not receive bribes saying the tendency has affected many Malawians who seek good public amenities.
